Why Suwanu Igbo Matters

In a rapidly globalizing world, preserving indigenous languages has never been more critical. When we lose a language, we lose more than just words – we lose:

Prayers Before the Blessed Sacrament

My God, I believe, I adore, I hope, and I love you! I beg pardon for those who do not believe, nor adore, nor hope, nor love you. Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore You profoundly. I offer You the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifference by which He is offended. And, through the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of You the conversion of Sinners, Amen.

About the Founder

Ifeyinwa (Benedette) Nwoye-Okorie

My name is Benedette I. Nwoye-Okorie. For the purpose of my Igbo writing, my name is Ifeyinwa (Benedette) Nwoye-Okorie. Language is my calling and Igbo language is rooted in me. I was born at Onitsha in Anambra State, had primary education in Enugu – my State of origin, and by marriage an Imo State woman. I speak Igbo, English and French fluently, I understand and speak Yoruba, and a little Hausa. I studied French language at diploma level in CAVILAM Vichy, France and first degree from the University of Dakar, Senegal. I worked and retired as a French to English Translator for 25 years.

The inspiration for her work in writing, teaching, and promoting the Igbo language stems from a poignant wish expressed by her late husband. Concerned that their children were not learning their mother tongue, he conveyed his disappointment to his younger brother during his final days. This concern resonated deeply with Benedette, as she recognized that many children face the same challenge. Given the pressing threat of language extinction, she felt a sense of urgency to act. Thus, she dedicated herself to creating self-teaching and classroom resources to address this vital need.
